The 86 SE I'm working on for a friend needs those little dust caps over the front wheel bearings replaced. I've checked with all of my usual parts suppliers and nobody seems to have them in their catalog.

Anyone got an idea on where these can be found?

Did you look in the "Help" section at Advance? I seem to remember them there.

They might also be in the trailer hitch section.

I replaced mine quite a while ago but as I remember there is a Mighty number for them.
Be warned that you must keep the cotter pin short and bent over snugly against the axle
or it will scrape the inside of the dust cap. Trust me on this one...

By the way, off topic here but Marji got in an accident today in her black Cabrio.
Both airbags deployed.....took her to the hospital tonight...they took X-rays.
She has some bruising & soreness but they say she'll be ok.

Oh no! Wish her well for me, OK?

The front hubs on the car I'm working on are a real mess. The previous "mechanic" installed new wheel bearings with just a little tiny bit of grease - then tightened the axle nut down TIGHT. To finish up, he pounded the dust caps on so well that you can see the outline of the end of the axle and nut in the cap.

The bearings were destroyed and the dust caps aren't reusable. But the spindle survived with no damage; caught it before it spun a wheel bearing. I managed to find bearings and seals today and picked up some "Help" dust caps that looked the same; I'll check them out a little more closely tomorrow.

I had a "real" problem finding a replacement cap for my 85 Sport Coupe last year. Checked all the auto parts' stores. Checked the dealer. Finally called Ed at the Fiero Factory and picked up 2 used ones (wanted a spare). Ended up having to "adjust" the cap with a ball peen hammer to make it fit.

I don't know if I had something weird with my hub or what? It was a real PITA.

Good luck
