I have only pulled the clip off of my donor car and I have not got into the wiring yet, but does anyone know offhand if the taillight wiring harness has a connector or do you you have to splice all of the wires together.

The tail light harness is half (I forget which half) of the C-500 connector, next to the battery. It then wraps all the way around the back of the car. If you have a trunk light (86 and later) or cruise control, that wiring is part of the taillight harness as well.
Depending on what your car is, and what the donor harness came from, you may have to re-pin some of the wires, or add wires.

Thanks, Raydar
My car is an 85 GT Auto w/cruise control.
My donor is an 86 GT (I think it has cruise control)

Okay... The C-500 connector is quite different in 85.
Since there wasn't a fastback option in 85, there are wires missing that will be needed.
The fastback has separate bulbs for the brake lights and turn signals. IIRC, those functions were combined on the same filaments (and, consequently, the same wire) in the 85. The wiring for the "Pontiac" lamps in the fastback tail lights is also in the way.
Just plugging the harness in will result (IIRC) in you not having any brake lights, and the radiator fan will run all the time. This has something to do with the radiator fan being bridged with the trunk blower.

I'm sure there are folks on here who have done the same conversion as you. Perhaps they will be able to speak more intelligently about the differences.

I`m beginning to think that perhaps I should just leave my notchie a notchie and get my fastback running as is. I was going to also swap my 4-speed out of my 86 into my 85 but with the wiring and all of the shifting mechanism, pedals and such I might be better off just keeping the 85 as is.

Well...
It's a consideration.

All I'll say is that it *has* been done.
I'm not sure how much trouble it was, or how neat it was when it was done.
But it has been done.

Just hang tight for a while. I'm sure someone will be able to help.

I would be curious if anyone has done the wiring for this swap successfully. I put an 86 clip on my 85 and had problems with the brake light/turn signals...as well as the radiator fan not coming on all the time. I did some tricky wiring to get the brake lights and turn signals to work, but i'd rather them function properly. So if anyone has done this, please post on how you did it. Thanks
