I've seen lots of 3800SC II Fieros; at Carlisle and other places. But, I have not seen any 3800SC II Fieros with automatic transmissions? They must exist? And, what transmissions are used, the stock Fiero TH125 or will the Pontiac or Buick auto trans fit / can it be used. Anyone have one? Information of any kind will be appreciated. Ed
I agree. They were all automatics in their first life in Buicks and Pontiacs. But I have not seen one in a Fiero. All the guys switched over to 5 speeds, it seems. Ed

actually I think most of them are using the 4t60HD or ehd auto's that came with them, especially if they modified the motor. I know 3800superfast, golden??, Ohio86se (?) and a few others here are all auto's.
if I ever did swap it would definately be an auto, after all that work to swap I'll live with the occasional axle, I don;t want to play the tranny swap game.
My 86 has the entire drivetrain from a 97 Pontiac Bonneville. So I've got the 3800 SC II combined with the 4T65eHD auto trans. It's a really sweet set-up. Car just loafs along at interstate speeds, usually 1800 to 1900 r.p.m. Just mash it, and blow past just about anything on the road. As much as I've enjoyed other hi-po v-8's , v6's, and even my supercharged rotary car in the past this car is the most practical for the level of performance. For as much as I get on the gas with this car I still get around 22 m.p.g. I almost went v8 on this car and based on what I read on this forum and otthers this v6/ auto tranny set-up was best for me.

I'm doing a Series III 3800SC swap with a 4T65eHD right now. I'd never consider using a stick with a turbo or blower as I want the throttle held wide open during shifts. During a drag race you need lightning fast shifts and consistency to win, Anyone who plans on bracket drag racing will always be using an automatic, that is, if they expect to win.

I had a pontiac GTP and around 80k my tranny went. The word on the street was the 97 trannies could not handle the supercharged engine. Really, I did not ride it hard either but those engines have great torque.

The strongets tranny GM makes is the 4T65E HD that comes bolted to the 97 up 3800SC engines. A very healthy 3800SC will destroy just about any tranny you bolt it up to if driven hard enough but the 4T65E HD will hold up the longest. If you want to build your car for drag racing then go with the auto if building for pleasure driving and just playing once in a while the manual 3800SC Fiero is a nice car to drive. Dan
