Lots of discussion lately on this subject. Just from reading it appears that higher RPMs are the main killer (above 4500). Plus the fact that getting 125hp out of a Duke costs a bunch of money. Compared to spending the same on a V6 and getting 180-200+ crank hp and revving it to 6k freely.

Your friend is wrong. They blow up at 92 HP. That said, I like them anyway and just finishing one up now to go in my Notchy.

If you can actually dump enough money into one to get 120 HP, it should handle it for awhile. But that's already into an area where it won't put up with too much abuse, and a little more power will make it break a lot sooner.

keep the revs low the duke is great for around town mpg the 5 speed will get 32 to 38 mpg on the freeway now listen up replace stock muffler with cherry bomb carefull cut with hacksaw with new blade and a little filing and adaptors available at most auto parts stores will yeald good sound that will not attract police give you slight increase in mpg slight increase in performance replace cat is optional,,then replace intake manifold with last model iron duke from numerous GM cars(grand am),compatible with ecm,do not port these manifold, the duke exhaust is GREAT keep it!!use regular spark plugs, mark the plugs and you can alignh the plus with out spacers, top quality plug wires.chek valve seats if you have head off if guides are good you can just lap in the valves with grinding compound run synthectic oil,if your head needs to be rebuild use the head from the later model Im not sure about this,,use stock air filter.should give you 105hp,if you go to cams ect you must keep rpms low, young men have sent many fieros to the crusher
