First let me say I think it’s a problem in the alarm wiring as it has been having a few intermittent problems . Mainly there is a small button hidden under the steering column that you have to push in as you start the car every time the battery has been disconnected. Well lately everytime I try to start the car it would crank over a couple of times and stop unless I held this button. now it's all dead

Is there a main fuse or fuseable link I should check first before I start pulling the alarm out.

Edited to add
I went back to the car with a small 12v battery with a cigarette lighter plug hooked to it. I plugged it in and had power to roll up the windows. I really didn’t check anything else with the voltmeter. I was happy to get the windows up and the doors locked. I put a cover over it and went home. The car is at my carwash…the last time I left it parked there overnight I got a nice call from the police at 4:30 AM wondering if I knew my car was there.

problem is you are asking about an alarm that isn't a factory item for the fiero. there are hundreds of different types of alarms out there and a dozen different ways to wire them and add kill switches to them. There could be a fuseable link in the system that has gone bad, or the switch itself could have gone bad as it sounds like it was a progressive failure.

I have owned a lot of cars, and of all of the ones which had strange electrical problems, almost all were because of alarm systems that were failing or were installed improperly. I would just remove it if possible.

The alarm came with the car, I have no documentation for it. I have always worried about trying to take it out as you can’t just cut the wires and take it out without worrying about the cutoffs.

I don't know about your alarm installation, but I had a fusible link open on my 1984 fiero and it gave the same symptoms. It was attached to the same stud on the starter solenoid as the battery wire was.
