I have an 87 GT 5 speed and am assuming that it has a Getrag transmission but from the description that I have been told, it is not a Getrag. Look at this pic and tell me if it is Getrag or something else. Pic is taken from directly above the transmission.

well the only 5spds that come in the Fiero are the Izuzu and Getrag. 87 GT's only have the Getrag so unless the tranny was taken and replaced with the izuzu by a previous owner, you should have the Getrag. My GT has the 4spd so i can't compare with the picture

It's a Getrag. The Isuzus have both shift cables next to each other at the tranny.

Reepermedic is right it is a Getrag another way to tell is to look at the end of the tranny you will see a plate held on with a number of bolts you should be able to see it from the wheelwell.
