What headlight controller are you talking about?

All the info for wiring the switch is in the 'Desiging a new dash' thread. Remove the dimmer from your Fiero switch and intall in into the Firebird switch assembly (you can change the knob) and wire as shown in JScott's wiring table in the thread (it's someplace near the last 2/3's I believe).

Now if you are talking about the headlight module that replaces the relays - well you need the 87-88 headlight motors as well - and to make it real easy, use the front wiring harness also from a 87-88 Fiero. This module is not required for the dash swap - it is only used when you want to upgrade the headlight motors to the second generation. ie: you can use the 87-88 Fiero wiring diagrams.

Link: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F.../HTML/023174-15.html almost 1/2 ways down is the wiring chart.

I am refering to the contoller that goes on the dashboard, to the left of the steering column.

So i just need to replace the dimmer switch with the one that is on the stock firebrid controller? what about the switches and everything?

Two things about the firebird switch...

The dimmer won't work with the Fiero... You could just swap the Fiero dimmer onto the Firebird switch, or move the circuit board of the Fiero switch over the the housing on the Firebird switch. You don't need the heat sink, you can throw it away.

The firebird headlight switch won't control the Fiero headlights unless you do one of two things... Either add a relay like shown here:

or add a wire to the "b" terminal of the Firebird switch.

Time for a shamless plug... I sell a 100% plug and play wiring harness for those that don't want to, or don't know how to mess with wiring. On sale now for $399. Includes all the switches and gauges modified to work in the Fiero.

Basic kit Includes $399

* Plug and play harness
* Firebird gauge cluster (120 mph)
* Firebird headlight switch
* Firebird trunk popper switch

Upgrades:

Digital Odometer +$50

Firebird Radio Harness +$50

...ah yes, now I remember, I also just swapped the circuit board out.

Myself, I just used the non-relay method and it works just fine (in my books, it was less work to add the extra wire to the plug).

You don't need to do anything with the switches, just wire them up as jscott1 showed and all is fine. The wiring for the dimmer switch just plugs in, you need the plug for the Firebird switch and just splice it into the Fiero's original light harness (cut the Fiero plug end off and install the Firebird one).

You have to go with jscott1's harness if you want one already to plug in.

jscott1,

Any chance you will come up with a way to allow the Firebird HVAC controls to work with your harness so that they can be used instead of the
Fiero controls?

Thanks,

Matt

I am trying to figure something out for a non a/c car (since that is what mine is) - so far less than sucess

I also noticed in your sig that you have my same setup - not sure if you are done yet, but you need to pay attention to both the tach and the speedo with the 4.9 swap. The Firebird cluster will not work correctly as it did with the Fiero cluster - the fixes are posted in the original dash swap thread (about 1/2 ways down): https://www.fiero.nl/forum/F.../HTML/023174-19.html
