Is there a way I can get my oil gauge on my 1988 4cyl (Now with the 4.9) to function properly? Right now it just pegs the needle when the engine is running. I have the sensor plugged into the oil filter adapter housing but I don't see much point in having it wired if it doesnt do anything. I imaging there is a way for this to work. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad sender...mine does the same thing, but it did that on the stock 4 cylinder.

One of the failure modes of the sender is to peg the needle all the time. Sometimes after it warms up it will work normally. But then fails again next time you start the car.

This question is about the 4.9 L engine swapped into a fiero with 4cyl gauges to help clear things up.

I know... I have a 4.9L swapped into a car with the 4 cylinder gauges.

There is no problem with the gauges. If your needle is pegged then your oil pressure sender is defective.

Which sensor did you use on the engine? If you used the stock caddy one, then that's all the guage will do, as the caddy Oil pressure sending unit was nothing more than a switch that controled a dummy light. It does not have the capability to read the amount of oil pressure in the system

So if you have the caddy sender, swap it over to the stock Fiero one and it should work just fine.

However, if you have the Fiero one in there now and it does that, than most likley the sender is no good.

use the stock sender for a 88 V6 - the others are too big and will not fit very well

I'm using my stock 4 cyl one. Yea, it's kinda big, but it fits and it works just fine. If I remember from way back when, it should be a direct plug in. I emphasize SHOULD. But swap them over and you'll have a working guage.

ok, I stand corrected - somehow I just recall some issue with the size of them...
