What size socket do I need to get to replace a leaking oil pressure sending unit on a 1988 2M4? I am guessing a 1 1/16" really deap well. I didn't find anything on the FIero store website. )-:

Go to Auto Zone or others. They make a special socket for the sender.

Thanks Don. Autozone lists 3 different sizes. I don't want to buy the wrong size.

I just checked mine and it is 1 and 1/16. Mine is the V6. I may be wrong but I think GM uses one socket for all GM.

it's a parts store, they might have the sender.
you could ask to see an oil sender for your car, then find the socket that fits.

Went to Oreillys today after printing out 3 competors online pics/prices. Oreilly parts guy got the wrong one from their stock. Thanks PFFers for the tip about checking the part before I leave the store! . Tried to sell me an 84 to 87 unit. I then showed him the pics and told him to look up a 1990 Chev and he was able to get me the right looking part. I then asked for the very deap well socket especially for the sender unit. Total cost was less than $36.00

For what it's worth, when replacing the sender on my 88 duke, the original (?) sender was a larger unit.
The replacement went on OK with the socket. I just used a mini-strap wrench to take off the bad unit. Conceivably a PO had installed the larger unit as a replacement, either will work since they both have the same electrical plug.
