My car had an ADS superchip installed in it when I bought the car(87 gt v6 5spd) Car runs good, has steady power, doesn't need the premium fuel like the ADS recommends. I'd be happy with keeping the chip in...Except it seems the car doesn't quite heat up to operating temp. and it runs a bit rich. I've heard chips that aren't flashed specifically for the exact car their being used in basically don't do much. SO...should I go back to the stock Delco chip, or just keep using this one? will I have to reset my timing and everything if I switch back? any one used one of these chips before?

sounds more like the previous owner put a lower temp thermostat in also. the chip has nothing to do with engine temps I used a ADS Superchip too for a long time. not a bad thing - but it does seem to ruin the fuel mileage

The chips do very very little, and I wouldn't really call any of it a benefit. GM worked hard to get the ECM settings in our cars right. The stock engine just doesn't have a great mound of HP to find hidden away in some ECM settings. If you put the stock chip back in, the only difference you're likely to notice is better gas mileage.
Jazzman is absolutely correct. They are all snake oil / junk. Unless you change the ECM as suggested in another post here, save the $ 25.00 for a $.25 piece of silicon and go get 4 six packs of something. In fact, the bottle return at 5c each, on 4 six packs is worth more than that chip. Ed

With a stock engine there's no reason to change chips, GMs is fine. If change things, espeacilly intake manifolds it is better to change it. I would probably stay with a stock chip even you have an aftermarket cam. engines with Turbos, carbs, our intake need a chip change.
I had a custom chip done for my car, and I did notice gains. However my chip would not have been legal to sell in the states or Canada. It was also written specifically for my engine mods. Altered fuel map, altered ignition curve, disabled EGR, removed RPM limits, the reason for the EGR delete had little to do with WOT performance, but more to do with drivability. The part throttle drive and response was much improved with the deleted EGR as the intake no longer got fed blasts of hot exhaust.
Sell your super chip on ebay and then get a hold of Watts on the forum. (or hit up the new club forum www.westcoastfieros.com/forum and look for Dr. Fiero) he lives on the mainland and does custom chips for people. You will probably be able to break even on the price. His chips are 60 CDN for a single tune deal, 100 CDN gets you the first setup and you are able to send it back twice for re-tunes or alterations. Oh and if you choose to go with the much cheaper and larger injectors from a Mustang (19# vs 15#) He has a fuel map so they can be used in the Fiero. I know it works as I managed to pass emissions testing here with No Cat, No EGR, Big Cam, and 19# injectors. My stock 88GT just failed Emissions testing due to a leaking 15#.
Performance chips do nothing but bump up all the fuel maps to make the car run rich. CUSTOM chips are different but they usually cost way WAY more.
I know, I have been inside all the different Fiero chips at the code level, there is absolutely nothing special in them. Their only advantage is they will stop the cold hunting idle problem on the V6.
