I have found a fast back 86 gt in good shape. I have an 85 gt that has a fresh engine in it, this car is auto and the 86 is a 5 speed. I want to put the 85 engine in the 86 will this work? they are both 2.8s is there anything different about the two years?

They will work. Swap the flywheels between the 2 engines. Put the 85 engine into the 86 car with the 86 Flywheel and tranny...
Direct Bolt in.

I'm not aware of any significant differences between the `85 and `86 GT V-6 engines. They're even rated the same: 140 HP at 5200 RPM.

I'm not familiar with the differences betrween the transmissions you've mentioned.

I like the 86 fast back look alot better the the notch back look. Any ideas

You will have to use the 86 engine wire harness.

Not sure what state you're in, but you should look up the lost title laws. It might give you a way of getting a title for the car.

As Synthesis and partfiero say, you need to use the harness from the recipient car, along with the flywheel. The parts are different on the automatic and manual.

You can have the Motor Vehicle Department run an inquiry to see if it's been reported stolen, or if it has any leins against it. If not, they can direct you on how to obtain what might be called a "Salvage Title". If you can't get a title for it, then you could remove the rear clip and tail lights, and swap them onto your 85 and have an 85GT Fastback. By running the VIN, you'd be assured that you're not holding stolen property.

I bought a 69000 mile GT from a wrecker yard with a Parts Only bill of sale, ran the VIN, and found it had a clear title. Contacted the State of Wisconsin and got a clear title on it. I thoroughly enjoy driving the car.

I can't remember .. Does the Fiero manual trans use a pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft?
