1986 Fiero GT > 2002 Grand Prix SC3800II Swap, one diag Code 1336 (CASE)

The SC3800 II fires up without hesitation and runs great 95% of the time. On occassion it lags when you give it gas after it's been driven and warmed up. We have only one code, which has been present since we first got it running. P1336. Standard scan tools wouldn't clear the code so we've looked into it a bit further. It appears it will be neccessary to find a scan tool with the CASE Learn function. The PCM must learn these parameters again.A friends research shows the following scanner may have the feature. If anyone in the Raleigh, Charlotte, NC areas could help us find such a scanner for 5 minutes, we'd greatly appreciate it.

GM Tech II scan and program tool <--Anyone have any GM connections?

Snap-On MT2000 and MT2500 scan tools (called CPK learn).

HP Tuners

More detail for those interested:

”CASE” means: crankshaft angle sensor error.
A crankshaft variation relearn must be performed if:
A diagnostic trouble code of P1336 is present.
The computer has been replaced or re-programmed.
The crankshaft position sensor has been replaced.
The engine, harmonic balancer, clutch, or flywheel have been:
disassembled,removed, or replaced.

The crankshaft position variation learning feature enables the
computer to compensate for part manufacturing tolerances. This
allows the computer to accurately detect an engine misfire throughout
the engine RPM range. The learning process is stored in the computer’s
memory and does not have to be repeated unless one or more of the
above conditions are present.

Does this below help any ? The lagging after warm up maybe your tcc, I reprogrammed mine to kick in later.

Set dtc code 1336 in the PCM

"Crankshaft Position System learn process"

The process.

IMPORTANT
While the learn procedure is in progress, release the throttle
immediately when
the engine starts to decelerate. Then shut the engine OFF for a minute.

1. Put trans in park
2. Idle the engine until coolant temp reaches 150 degree's F
(Thermostat opens at least once)
3. Turn OFF all accessories
4. When engine is warm
5. Slowly raise the RPM's to arround 4,000 or so
6. Immediately release the throttle when the engine speed decreases
7. Turn OFF the ignition for a minute or so after the
learn procedure is completed successfully

anyone with a power tuner or hptuner should be able to do a case learn for you.

Or, before I had a hptuner, I went to any local gm dealer and had a tech do it ... normally only takes a min.

Thanks Superfast. I do have the procedures; however, it first requires you to connect the scan tool and choose CASE, LEARN or CPK mode, depending on the scanner. We found the following:

"The system CANNOT "self-learn" the variations and CANNOT be programmed using any "special" driving periods or procedures. It can ONLY be programmed using a capable scan-tool."

The steps, as you listed are pretty eazy, once you initiate the function. That's why I'd hate to spend $60+ to have a dealer put it in Learn mode in 5 seconds. My real hesitation in taking it to a dealer is their book will instruct them to reset to factory defaults and we just paid Loyde to change the factory defaults. I'm sure Loyde would hook us up, but I'd have to drive to TX.

Thanks Crab Daddy, Ideally we hope to find a local with one of these packages. Otherwise I'll try to find a reasonable dealer tech to help. I tried this last year at the local Pontiac shop and got the minimum diag fee line.

I was able to get a gm tech to do it for free twice, just a little chit chat about cars and then pop the question.

My buddy brought in a box of dough nuts for them and they did the case learn for free.

a DHP powertuner can do it too, not that this helps. I doubt its causing you any problems, as my manual swap car needs this to be done, but I cant do it quite yet as I have to rig up a switch to make it think its in park.
