I have a 1970 Chevelle with two(2) 455 Oldsmobile engines.I had both of the carbs rebuilt and flow tested.I could not make the front engine run,it would constantly shut off when I tried to give it some throttle. It would only run about 200/300 RPM's.I swapped carbs from front to back with the same results. The back engine would fire up instantly and the front engine wouldn't run.I figured air in / air out,so I took the diffuser plates off the supertrapp mufflers for the front engine and found one of them completely blocked.Cleared the plugged side and the engine started instantly and throttle response was just how it should be,nice and crisp. The mufflers had only six(6)diffusers on them because I removed about six(6) when I first built the car because it was too loud.I don't know whether the debris came from the exhaust(which is aluminized) or the muffler, but once it was out of there the engine ran as if it were new.Even though the car has less than 150 miles on it,I finished back it in 1992.This is for those of you that have Supertrapps, check them at the diffusers every once in a while, you may be slowly losing ground and not realizing it because it is happening so slowly.More diffusers will make it louder and help prevent this from happening to anyone else.I was starting to think I had an internal engine problem,I'm really happy that it turned out to be something so simple, now I can relax and finish getting the car ready to sell.
