Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.
The car idles fine, but as you get up to about 3k it goes ta-ta-ta-ta-ta just like hitting the top end on a car with a rev limiter.
Plugs and wires seem fine.

Any idea?

Get your ignition module checked (they do it for free at some advance autopart locations if you remove the unit). It has different ignition modes based on rpm, I had the one below 3000 blow on me...would barely run until I could coax it over 3000.

Possibly the cat is going out,any problems with the temperature? If it's running hotter, then it's probubly the cat.

If it's not running hot,you may want to have your fuel presure tested,(fuel pump may be going out).

This is while your giving it gas/driving? Sneek a peek at your wires at night, check the rotor & cap , ignition modual, ohm out the pick up coil, fuel filter could be clogging up, cat plugging up , but sounds like a ignition component/fire problem....Double check all the vacums...Had one fouled plug do this to me once, right after I installed them in this cold weather .

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I appreciate it.
However I still don't have this guy figured out.

Swapped the coil, ignition module, and o2 sensor to no avail.
I'd like to test the fuel pressure as soon as I can find a guage, but the pump and filter are less than a year old. Same with the cat.
And it's got nothing to do with temperature or load. Will do it right off a cold idle or nice and warm, and still won't go over 3k just sitting in neutral.

"ohm out the pick up coil" How would I do this, any links?
And any more ideas...?
