I need to replace the cylinder head in my '84 2.5L but I want to know what the differences are of all of the cylinder heads and if they are interchangeable.

Can I use an '87 2.5L head on my '84 with no problems?

Thanks!

I just looked up reman cylinder heads for the 2.5L and what I found was 84-86 goes together and 87-88 goes together. Not sure the differences though....

The '87/'88 use a different intake and exhaust manifold. The '86 also uses roller lifters, while the earlier ones don't, but that's not a problem.

so it sounds like '84 - '88 2.5L heads are interchangeable... That's good to know!

Thanks.

The '87+ will require the new style exhaust manifold, intake manifold and throttle body though. It would be easier to get an '84-'86 head than do all that.

another thing to think about.. take a look at a 2.5l block code U head. perferably out of a 91 or so grand am. the head is opened up alot more than the 2.5 R head which is in the Fiero. I used a grand am head to get an idea of areas to dremel out to increase oil flow in the stock duke head. dunno what all benefits are to though..

I thought that the cylinder spacing was different between the code "U" and the code "R" heads????? If so they can't be mounted on a Fiero Duke
