Rattle - hollow plastic sound when engine is idle sometimes, what could it be? by krackley

I hope I explained that correctly. When the car is started, it makes a rattling sound. It stops when I give the engine a little gas, seems to be durring idle. Mostly does it when the engine is first started, or at least I don't notice it much after it's been running a while.

I can record it for you guys if more info is needed. THANKS!!

Which engine, and transmission do you have? If you have a manual try pushing the clutch in to see if the rattle goes away. If it does then the throw out bearing is making a little noise.

also check the shield on the cat...makes an odd sound and can be hard to pinpoint.

It's got the 2.8 V6 with an automatic.

Take a long screwdriver or broom handle and place one end of it (carefully!) on the water pump housing with the engine running. Put the other end up to your ear. When the bearings start to go, they make a hollow "thocka-thocka-thocka" sound, especially when cold.

That's my bet.
