i have an 86 gt w 4speed transmission. i have a 2 wire plug thats hanging loose and dont see where it would go. it comes off the harness right next to the 2 wire plug that goes to the speedometer gear on the transmission. is this for an automatic car and not used or does it go to something somebody may have removed?

Welcome to the Forum!!!

It would be very helpful if you can you post a picture of the connector and the surrounding area. The software you need to do this is obtained by clicking on the Red/Blue White Icon at the bottom of the main page. The icon says Pennock's Image Poster.

I have an 86 with a 5-speed so I may not be able to help, but I also have a Haynes and a Chiltons which might have some info.

Good Luck!!

It's for the 5sp option. GM didn't change the harness for different transmissions, so there is a near identical socket that just dangles.

To be more specific, it's for the backup light switch; there's also one in the console at the shifter. One or the other is used in manual transmission cars depending upon the transaxle...
