What is the easiest way to remove the shifter? Can I cut at the yellow lines and glue it back? That support doesn't seem too significant and would make it so much easier to remove it without taking the whole support off. Please illuminate me with ideas here. Thanks.

If you do cut it, use plastic weld chemicals instead of glue. It makes it just as strong as it was before you cut it.

Im glad we have a shifter takeout thread going. I needed a guide.

You can take that plastic support all the way out. It goes from under the console glovebox up to the radio.
It's been a while since I've had one out. I think I took the shifter off and was able to get it out with a little moving around and swearing.

How long til you drive with the 6 speed. I'm curious to know how it's going to shift. I've been considering doing the 6spd so I don't have to worry about my trans breaking.

I'm very close to it. Tomorrow if lucky I may at least fire it up. But need to replace the shifter to the modified one to drive. I know the whole suppor comes out but because I have an aftermarket radio I cannot remove it (the radio) easily (many wires). I did it once but it was big PITA.

Are you just taking out the shifter only, cause that looks pretty cut-n-dry, the shifter bracket looks like a little more work, I`d guess if time where a factor, you could cut that part of the sceleton and re-glue with the plastic welder as mentioned above, your center consol will hide it and take most of the impact anyway...

I am in the process of putting mine back together after rebuilding my shifter with Rodney's rebuild kit.
It looks like you would be able to cut the skeleton into two sections for ease of removal. There's a flimsy area near the forward shifter mounting bolts. If you cut there, the entire rear section of the skeleton will come out without too much trouble.

If you're messing with the shift cables, the rear part of the skeleton has to come out since the cables run under it.

I'm still trying to get mine put back together. I knew it was going to be a major PITA when I realized I had to remove my aux. gagues to get my shifter out.

I took mine once for a Rodney kit. That time I didn't remove the whole thing but rather lifted it enough to take the assembly from the side. But this time I cannot take the radio out enough without disconnecting a bunch of wires.
