I noticed that the dogbone mount on the motor side is slotted (at least it is on my 88)
I was wondering do you tighten the dogbone up where it does not allow any movement or do
you tighten it just enough on the side that is slotted to move ?

I know when I make up my dog bones for 3800SC swaps I build it to bolt on where the engine sits normally with it not running. I would just tighten it where it is sitting. Dan

The slot is there to help with installation but the dog bone has to tightened down tight. It is there to keep the engine from rocking front to back.

I would think it should not move also.
Thanks for the input.

I have Rodney's adjustable dogbone and thought it should be adjusted neutral. Several forum members said it's supposed to have preload on it. According to the Factory Manual, when installing the "strut" the engine should be pushed rearward with a horizontal load of 200-250 Newtons and the bolt tightened with the load applied. Both strut bolts should be tightened to 42 ft pounds. As near as I can guess you want to pull it toward the rear as hard as you can and hold it there while tightening the dog bone.

Wrong as if you tighten it down in a 3800 alluminum brakcet it will crack,,, ask me how I and others know hehehehe. The dog bone should be able to move as engine rocks some. The center on the steel set ups or standard fieros will lock on the center sleeve which has teeth on it so that you can not tighten the rubber to much. You will see as you tighten it pulling in the metal and that is to much so watching while you tighten. SC
