how many gallons are in a 1987 Fiero GT gas tank? i looked all over the internet, read the "entire" chiltons manual (cant find my haynes now), and searched this forum also...and i think all i got was that an 84 se or something has like 10.5 gal. And im not even 100% sure i read that one right. Im curious because my gas gauge is off (i think, finding this out) and i fill up about 7.1 gallons 3 or 4 clicks from empty (half of the size of the side of my pinky width). Just curious to see how much i have left after that point...any info greatly appreciated!

It's worth noting that the last gallon or two at the bottom of the tank is pretty well there for decoration. There's a frame inside which is meant to keep the fuel pump pickup submerged even around tight corners/hard acceleration. This also means that the fuel on eather side can never be used. So don't count on being able to use every gallon the tank is rated for.

I don't have my book here, and I know I posted this before, but can;t find it.
87 and 88 have the larger tank, I believe it is 11.9 gallons.
prior years were 10.3 gallons.

And from very recent experience I can tell you at 11 gallons gone you will be walking the rest of the way.

not to highjack this tread, i can only hold about 8 gallons of fuel in my 85. i tried varoius pumps and stations all with the same results. Plus the gauage never goes to full just lingers around 3/4 tank. it dont bother me just thought it was weired.

Another variable here is the amount of crud that may or may not have accumulated at the bottom of the tank. This crud will take up space and decrease the fuel capacity of the tank. Normally it shouldn't even notice it because the first thing it eats up is that untouchable gallon at the bottom of the tank; but in the few cases where it starts to pile up...
