Can someone please tell me what color is the wire for the O2 sensor on the engine harness side for an 86-GT automatic w/ac?
I have an O2 sensor on the crossover pipe, but can't find a connector for it anywhere. There is however a single wire that runs from the main junction on the firewall, and someone has cut and grounded it. Under all the dirt, it looks brown. if this is the O2 Sensor wire, why would someone do that?

I`m pretty sure it`s purple....I`ll double check in the shop in a couple hrs and post if different. As to why someone would do that--God only knows, if it helps any I`m seeing a tan and black ground running next to it in a wiring diagram.....

Just snuck out of the office and took a look at my 86 Fiero, 3800superfast is correct, it's purple. You can get the little connector at any auto parts store and splice it on to your purple wire so you can change out O2 sensors easily. Believe it or not, I've got that little connector right here in my office desk drawer, if you can't locate one in Ontario, PM me.

don't know if this will help at all, but here you can see the connector just above the coolant tube, the grey wire going off to the y pipe. hard to see the color of the harness end, but if you follow it back, it breaks out of the main harness just about even with the bellhousing/block .
click for full size:
in this pic, look at the right half, you can see the o2, the connector and the wire entering the harness, the little loop above the sensor.
hope this helps a little....

Here is a picture of the purple color of the O2 sensor wire.
Here is a picture of the little GM connector that splices into the purple wire.
Sorry about the large byte size of the pictures, I did resize them once, camera batteries were warning of low power, I wanted a clear picture of that connector, hope you can see it well. Yeah, I had to perform "open wire harness surgery" once before, same thing, previous owner cut the wire off, why do people "fix" things like that for?
I found out that those O2 sensors are really sensitive, I needed to splice a new connector in to get the engine running well.

Got it! I unwrapped the wireloom and found that it had been snipped right where it enters teh harness and had slipped back inside. I fixed it and rewrapped the harness to clean things up.
Good job guys!
