My 4T60E has the VCC (viscous converter clutch or variable converter clutch) torque converter.
I understand that the "variable" function can be eliminated by disconnecting the PWM solenoid. Haven't tried that yet, but probably will this weekend. (I thought it might be possible. Read something somewhere else that confirms the idea.)
Okay. So far, so good.

Can the 4T60E converter be replaced with a converter from a Non-VCC automatic tranny, as long as it still has the lockup function (like a 125C or similar?)
You can probably guess where I'm going with this. Will it work? Are the converters similar enough that they are interchangeable?

Thanks.

I'm assuming this is in a cadillac?

Cadillac designed their transmissions for the ultimate in comfort, which meant that any harsh shifting or TCC lockup was out. So they created this clutch that could be applied slowly to eliminate the shock of lockup. On my transmission, I have tried the slow PWM lockup, and the on/off switch style lockup. There's hardly a difference. If you've got a shift kit, you'd think you were going into 5th gear.

Oh, note that on my transmission the PWM solenoid is 5 volts. Yours may be different, but applying 12v to it may kill it.
