So, today I recieved my new brake pads, and i went to put them on the rear. As i have done with my other cars, i tried pushing in the piston with a C clamp. It wouldnt move. Also, the brake pads have two nipples on the back of them, that are supposed to line up with holes in the face of the piston. They dont. The piston is slightly turned, so they dont line up. I tried opening the bleeder valve, to relive the pressure behind the piston, but it still wont go in. Whats going on?

I have a 87 fiero. Any ideas?

The fiero has a delightful system involving the e-brake, and pistons that actually spin in their bores when extending. It's enough to make you kill yourself, I know I almost did. I can't recall the exact method for pushing them back in, but it involves a small 'cube' tool with notches in it...

Don't try to force the piston back in without using the proper method. I'll try to find some info for you, unless someone smarter gets here faster.

Steve

***EDIT***

Here you go. Go to the Ogre's Cave ( http://home.comcast.net/~fierocave/ ) and then go to "Body & Chassis/Brakes/Rear Brakes" and read. There's all the info you will need, hopefully! Cheers mate-

Steve

The help sections in most parts stores will have the cube tool, they`ll know what you mean. The calipers on the rear need to be rotated back in, the drivers side will be counter-clock wise, the pass side is the opposite. The little cube tool hooks up to your sockets exstention, then fits in the little divits , then aids in rotating the caliper back in...Don`t force it with a C-clamp they weren`t made to work that way..hope this helps some....

Is this cude device a device that uses piston rotation, that

"GM DOES NOT recommend the use of piston rotation to retract the piston into the caliper in the 84-87 Fiero. Only 88 model Fiero pistons should be retracted by rotating the piston." ?

Thats on the orgres cave, at http://home.comcast.net/~fierocave/ in the rear brakes section, under body and chassis.
