Hello Fiero folks,
I am interested in adding power widows to my 86 SE. Are the body harnesses purpose built or are they universal; meaning, are the wires in place or is this something I have to hunt down? My car is an odd ball in that it has power mirrors but no power locks or windows. Can't imagine being able to do that with a purpose built harness. 'Couse, I never worked in Detroit either.

The wiring harness for the window and locks is seperate and there is nothing pre-installed that you can just plug into.

I added the wiring harness for the power locks, windows and mirrors to my plain base coupe that only had the rear defroster for an option.

If you can find a donor car with the options you need you'll have to pull the harness in each door along with the rubber boot that goes between the doors and the frame and the power options you want like the lock motors and window motors.

The cross car wiring harness is the hardest to pull as it runs under the dash and down the center console in a "T" shape.

On the right side in front of the door there is a relay tied into the harness for the windows and also a ground point and the power is plugged into a junction block up under the dash near the left speaker.

Easy way would be to remove the dash to get to the wiring and take notes or pics as you go to help reassembly.

Hope that helps a little.

Steve

I may still be 1/2 a sleep , but won`t you need newer/different inner door panels & the center consol shifter assembly also, to mount the window switches & door locks.

I think i have the wiring, and possibly the switch plate (no switches, but they can be bought new for $20) that id sell for $30+shipping. But your probably on your own for the other stuff, *IF* you want to drive to WV ill give you the entire doors with the power windows and locks in them for $100 with the wiring.

Just find doors w/ your exterior color and same interior take the doors, cut the wiring harness where the door connects into the body wiring. Get the switches/console cut there. Run new wires from there to the door. Easiest way. Cost me $100 bucks but I had to take the whole car

Thanks for all the info. I really hate trying to operate the manual passenger side window from the drivers seat; it really is a pain in the....anyone who ever owned a manual windowed car will agree. I have other things to address first if it is as involved as it sounds but I will start looking around for the parts as I go.
