A friend of mine just bought a 1990 Isuzu Trooper and it has a GM 2.8 V6 carburated engine. He also got a spare engine with it. A little research tells me that it's rated at 190HP?!?
Can anyone tell me more about this engine? is it the same as our 2.8 engines? I know one of our club members , Arns85GT has carbed his 2.8 and I am wondering how different this would be? Would it fit into a Fiero?

I believe the Trooper uses the same bellhousing pattern. Rodney dickman advertises his jig for the 3.4 as also working for the Trooper. And we know the 3.4 is the same pattern...
probably differant heads intake and cam profile. Maybe higher compression as well. More info on this would be valuable. Nice find on a potetial upgrade motor .

The first Gen troopers used a carbed 2.8, that is correct. But it was 120HP. The 190HP V6, came in the 2nd Gen Troopers, it was a DOHC 3.2l V6 in 1992.
Edit for this. You could take the distributor and intake manifold off the Isuzu and add on a Holley carb and you might have a pretty workable carb'd 2.8. I don't know the flow numbers for the stock 2.8 intake though.

I had a carbed 2.8 in my 84 Jimmy, it didn't like to rev, so I would forced it. I think its' bottle neck was in the head. They had smaller valves than our Fiero heads.
