Doing a google search turned up two findings for spark plug firing order.

1. Q In which order do the spark plug wires go on the rotary cap on a 84 fiero?
A Firing order on the 2.5 L L4 engine is 1-3-4-2 where do you hook up one to.... ( kinda of leaves something off at the end of the sentence.)
2. Q What is the firing order for a Pontiac Fiero 2.5L 4 cylinder?
A The firing order is 1-2-3-4-...just like the 2.8 v-6 which is 1-2-3-4-5-6

Who is right

Looking here I see what you mean, this is what I`m showing
clyinder numbers (right to left)-- (trans-axle on left)
1 2 3 4

**Front**
^^^ 4 3 2 1 ^^^^

The # 1 on the cap will be *one* post past the hold down screw nearest the rear of car .

Firing order will run, 1-3-4-2
*clockwise*

I replaced cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I cannot get the intial timing set to get it started. The #1 wire is set just past (clockwise) the lower retaining screw on the dist cap. I set the crank for the notch on the pulley to the first tab on the timing tab. The rotor points at about 4 o'clock. But will not fire over. I verified spark and can smell gas in the exhaust. How do set the dist to get it started? I have a timing light once it starts I can adjust the dist.

If you rotate the engine over one more time the rotor should be pointing about 10 o'clock, and be on the compression stroke. Stick your thumb over the #1 cylinder plug hole as you rotate the engine over and you should feel pressure push your thumb off as the piston comes up on the compression stroke.

According to a TSB about #3 wire abraiding on a core plug (tape a piece of plastic wire loom over the plug wire in that area) the #1 plug tower should be there in the 10 O'clock position. Firing order is listed as 1-3-4-2 (clockwise) but the diagram in the TSB is labelled such that it would be 1-4-3-2. I suspect they labelled the picture wrong.

Good luck. BTW to set timing follow the emissions sticker... probably 4, 8 or 10BTDC with a tan/black wire unplugge.
