I dont know if anyone else has done it this way but here goes...I was so happy to figure it out I just had to share.
After breaking numerous lids (7) trying to remove them to restore...I came across this overly simple solution which had been staring me in the face all this time. This method requires NO tools...just your fingers.
First Remove the retaining spring...
Then take a look at the piece of plastic that runs the length of the ash tray door...
Place fingers as shown and bend the plastic. Keep in mind if yours is seriously deteriorating then it could crack...none of mine were that bad so this method worked well.
This will "pull" the sides in just enough to wiggle the lid off of the very tiny and fragile studs..thats it! Done! And without breaking the lids or studs....to install just do this in reverse!
ANNDDD.......for those of us that have read this thread too late to do any good, crazy glue seems to work well to put the lids back together after breaking them.
lol. I've done this twice and I cant remember if I broke them or not. I think one i did and I'm pretty sure I plastic melted them together with some hard glue as a support. that was too long ago. that looks like a good method. thanks

Ohh, I see I have to go to Home Depot to get some bolts. The plastic feet from my shift boot ring came off some time ago and I couldnt figure out how to fix it.
