I just had my 2.8 professionally rebuilt. I am putting it back in the car.

Do I install this little white plastic collar on the oil pump drive shaft? I didn't take the old one off and this cap came with the new oil pump.

Thanks for your help. Ron

Yup that's the way it goes. You can use it if you want. I don't think they really do any good unless your putting the pump in with the engine up-side-down it keeps the shaft from falling out of the pump. Or if you pull the distributor a couple of times while building the engine it keeps the shaft from pulling out with the dizzy.
If you put the shaft in from the top you can leave it off. I think they usually get hard from the heat and oil and fall apart after a while anyway.

Saw you had some really hot weather up there a week or so ago. Thought that was interesting being that far north...

Just to make a note, most manufactures will not honor any warrenty claim if the sleeve is not used and provided.

Yes, it has been hot up here. First time over 100 since 1997. Humidity has been so high also.

Thanks also Indiana for the comment. I will install it.
