Problem: WCF-style intake on 2.8, mounting bolt ripped out from a massive pothole, intake now pops off the throttle body as soon as I start driving.

I'm thinking I could make a hanger to hold the weight vertically, mounted to what used to hold the stock airbox (pic below, circle on the left) ...

... and then stabilize fore/aft. As you can see from the other pictures, this is how the pipe moves when it comes off. For these other hangers I was thinking of tying one into the decklid hinge mounting area where there's already a few holes, and the other to... something else.

I guess they need to allow a bit of movement due to the engine torquing fore/aft, so I was thinking some of those black rubber straps that have a hole in one end and a loop in the other... put the strap around the pipe, thread it through the looped end so it holds itself on, then attach the non-looped end to something with bolts..?

Anybody have a better idea? I'm not sure where to get these rubber straps either. I'm pretty frustrated at the moment so any help is appreciated, except don't tell me to put the stock airbox on Thanks

The plumbing section of Home Depot will have a black coupler that would be stronger

is the mounting ear still arttached to the tube? if not send it back to WCF for a free repair, I did this a couple times when I worked there. The mounting ear shoulf line up with an existing hole in the frame that is for the baffle that used to live between the fender and the frame

Just looked at the pics real good, those actually look like my welds, did you purchase this unit a few years ago?

Thanks, but the strength of the coupler isn't the problem. It's a combination of too little friction on the intake tube's end of the coupling and little or no support to keep it from pulling loose when the engine torques or when hitting a pothole or something.

A WCF-style intake, but not a true WCF intake as far as I know...? Which I don't know I got it second hand from another PFF member several months ago, I don't remember from whom.

It's all really heavily built so the mounting bar is still intact, but there's really nothing to mount it to but sheet metal with no access from behind to use a nut, which is why it tore out in the first place. I tried using the mounting holes from the water separator, but it didn't hold for very long. It wasn't strong enough for me to tighten the bolt so that the top won't detach from the throttle body due to the engine torquing, and the bolt ripped out of the sheet metal anyway.

Also, the PCV nipple also isn't quite in the right place so I have it connected with a 360 degree loop of hose for now. Was it made for some year that's slightly different than my 86? Well, I'll just get a PCV breather anyway because I don't see any cheaper solution.
