Delphi---made for ac/delco, a little cheaper ,but not quailty wise. Always a good choice , have had them for years, and not had to drop the tank again on any of them..

Delphi or ACDelco ... same pump from the same manufacturer, just different distribution channels and different part numbering systems. Buy a new "strainer" and "pulsator" at the same time. Since the pump design has changed slightly since the late '80s, you will probably also need to buy a new rubber "isloator pad" that goes between the pump and pulsator. See this thread for more information.

Part numbers for an '88 V6, repeated from the earlier thread:

Pump --- Delphi FE0113 (Delco EP378)
Pulsator --- Delphi FA0001 (Delco FP27)
Strainer --- Delphi FS0001 (Delco TS1)
Rubber Isolator --- GM/Delco 25004553 (dealer only)

I used a HYGRADE part # EFP 154, flows about 50% more, free flow GPH 50-60 or you could use stock part # EFP 189 which is 35-40. Mine is a modded 3.4

Virtually the same as ACDelco. Same pump, same manufacturer, same price, just different distribution.

My local O'Reilly Auto Parts warehouse stocks the Delphi pump for the V6 Fieros, but the ACDelco pump is special order. Go figure.

I don't know anything about the fuel pumps WCF is selling, so I can't comment.

Mike OHIO's original request was for a "stock 2.8," and for that I would strongly recommend sticking with the stock pump. The stock Fiero pump was used in a quite a few other vehicles (you can see this on ACDelco's web site), and it has more than enough capacity for a 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4. According to ACDelco, GM even used this very same pump in the 1990-1993 Cadillac DeVille 4.9. You can have too much of a good thing, and bigger is not necessarily better!

That said, it is widely reported that a fuel pump for an early '90s Corvette (ACDelco EP376) is an exact drop-in replacement for the Fiero pump. (Maybe this is one of the pumps that WCF is selling?) If I were swapping in an engine with a lot more displacement and/or a much higher fuel flow requirement, such as a SBC or Northstar, I would probably install this pump at the same time.

As an engineering rule of thumb, 16 gph (gallons per hour) should be good for up to about 190 horsepower. You can do similar calculations for other fuel pumps ... just figure on about 12 horsepower (max) for each gph of fuel flow.

WCF pumps are most likely a stock pump, that they feel "gets the job done", I wouldnt hesitate to get it for a stock aplication, but at that price, OUCH.

I would like to suggest again the www.treperformance.com pumps, as I really think they are a steal at $40.

darkhorizon:

On the TERperformance site, would that be this model: TRE-340C 255 LPH Fuel Pump?

They don't specifically list the Fiero (unless I'm blind which is a distinct possibility ) they just say "1985-1992 GM All Models".

Thanks

here is what i paid for from Rockauto.com note: all acdelco parts except for the pulsator. they even stock the "new design" rubber isolator pad for half the cost of gmpartsdirect. pretty good price on the acdelco pump, also- i think gmpartsdirect.com was around 130...higher straight from the dealer?

good price on shipping too, and that was for 2nd day air.

I got a Bosch and it elliminates the pulsator so you get away with only buying the pump and strainer for about $80.

As I mentioned in my other thread, the Delphi pump kit includes a length of hose that can be used to replace the pulsator; the ACDelco pump kit probably does too. But I still think it's a good idea to retain the pulsator. If the pulsator is installed and working correctly it should result in slightly better (more consistent) fuel delivery and longer pump life. On the other hand, the pulsator does add complexity and is one more part that can fail.

When I replaced my aging fuel pump with a new Delphi pump a couple of months ago I also replaced the pulsator. The new installation is virtually inaudible, even when the engine isn't running. I think I made the right choice ... at least for me.

When I pulled out my old pump the pulsator was already gone, so I wasn't about to go buy one.

replaced mine with Acdelco EP240, it did come with a piece of hose to delete the pulsator but I didnt use it, connector and pump are plug&play. You have to order the strainer seperately because it doesnt come with the pump.

For my engineswap I will be going with a Walbro 255LPH high pressure fulepump, $98 at jdsperformance.com....but I am already waiting a month for it to arrive....you can also look at apeusa.com
