I was looking at my under-body last night while I was repairing my leaking transmission line and noticed that the underside looks like brand new. The only thing that I didn't notice until now is that in a few places on the underside of the frame there are these 'metal insert like plug things' lol. I don't know quite how to describe them but they are little sections that look like they can be removed. The reason I ask is because the body if perfect under there with the exception of these little unknows plugs that are about 4 or 5 inches square. With a screw driver I can punch a hole in one of them and can feel the interior rug underneith so I was wondering if they can be replaced and if so, where can I find them? If no one knows what I am talking about I can take a pic. Let me know, and thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum. I beleave the plugs you talked about are zinc coated pieces (should be 3 on each side of the floor pans and one for the trunk Area). You will need to remove the carpet and pad. They are sealed in with a sealer. Not sure where you can find them, but someone on here will have them. Gook luck...

Unless your going for original I would just cut some heavy plastic like margarine lid etc. a little larger than the hole. Slip it inside the hole and let the carpet hold it down. Then put a couple good heavy coats of spray rust proofer over it.

Or you can cut a metal cover a little larger than the hole and put a hole in it. Use a metal strap like bar longer than the hole with a screw pointing down and slip it in the hole. Put the cover on the screw and a nut to hold it up. Then rust proof.

Try GM direct as they had them in 2003, here are the part numbers.

GM PART # 10215806

DESCRIPTION: COVER ASM

GM PART # 20579955

In my trunk, I used a GM van bed liner material which is a hard rubberized plastic which I cut and glued down with Weldwood contact cement, sprayed undercoating underneath. Holding up very well, no water whatsoever.

Thanks for all the great idea's! In the pictures they look pretty easy to form out of sheet metal. I'll take the old ones out and use them as a guide. If it proves to be past my abilities (I should hope not!) i'll just do a temperary make shift job until I find the correct parts. I'll give GM a try and see if they are still available also. Thaqnks for the model #'s! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the proper name for these?

I used to know the name for them, but I think that brain cell fell behind the herd and the Absolut finished it off.
Anyway, it's only a few minute project to knock them out with some tin snips ,hammer and some galvanized sheet form a home center. I used the hammer to round down the outer edges so it acted like a cap, the siliconed them in place of the rusted ones.
I did 3 in the cab, one was still almost new.
had I thought they were still available, I would have bought em tho for that price, just to make it nice.
