All,

Does any know if the factory aluminum bracket on the 3800s acts a heats sink for the coil pack assembly? I want to relocate mine to the battery tray area and don't want my ignition system to cook itself.

Has any one had problems just hard mounting it to the firewall or should I use a block aluminum to bolt it to for heat dissipation?

I moved mine to the battery tray area. I relocated the bracket that the ICM mounts to along with the ICM and coil pack. It was just as easy to mount it using the ICM bracket with new holes drilled in the batery tray than mounting without it.

I also ran a ground from the new mount location to the engine... just to make sure I had a nice solid ground for the coil pack.

Thats exactly were we put the coil pack, works very well but you will have to make your
wires to lenght. You can get the kits and assembles the sp wires yourself.

Thanks guys. I am going to attempt to get a piece of aluminum to bolt it to and then to fire wall. After looking more and more at the bracket I think it was designed to as light as possible, and I don't think heat dissipation was on GMs list of worries here. All things being equal I am going to use some kind back plate that conduct and heat generated away from the ICM.

As for the wiring that part is piece of cake. The hard part is choosing where and exactly how to mount this thing.

Thanks again.

I only used the small alluminum piece that came on the GTP ( Thing that has 3 screws coming out) And ran a wire to the engine for gound.
Like said above, You will have to custom make your wire lengths.

I relocated mine on the trunk side fire wall, haven`t had a problem with heat , I think Loyde has some pics of his builds on his site , with different coil pack locations... Thanks topcat for the ground wire idea, I`m going to do that to mine......

That is the same bracket that I moved with the coil pack, and mine is in the same location.
