Anyone know where I can find a replacement gear ?

I just replaced both of the 87 coupes bushings. One gear is damaged, the teeth were worn (melted) by the internal metal gear.

Thanks for any information.

Someone sells some machined brass gears on Evilbay,(look in the Fiero parts) but I have this suspicion that the original ones are nylon not just to save $, but to dampen noise. I have a pair of decent original nylon gears out of some spare motors that you're welcome to. I'm in the Tampa area. PM me for phone number and i'll arrange to get them to you.

Don't know about 2nd gen headlight motors, but in the 1st generation the brass gear actually made mine significantly quieter! Might have been the combination of everything that made them quieter though, since they were in pretty rough shape before I rebuilt them (new bushings, gears, brushes and grease) but hey

EDIT: and oh yes, Rodney's is the place to go for headlight motor stuff, definitely!

I'm happy to hear that the brass gears don't make the headlight motors noisy. I had considered using them when, (not if), the current rebuilt ones bite the big one again, but was afaraid they'd sound like coffee grinders.

I'll also chime in with a big recommendation for Rodney. Not only are the gears he is selling lower priced than the ones on Evilbay, but I've had nothing but great experience buying from him and his stuff is first rate quality. There's a big difference between just replacing parts and actually FIXING a problem, and Mr. Dickman seems to have a real talent for having products that actually make things *better* and not just "patching" a problem with cheap replacements.
