This is wierd. Got a code 13 so I replaced the O2 sensor and a week later I get a new code 13?! What's up with this? For what its worth, I asked the mechanic at work to hook his multi-meter to my TPS and I got 1.17 idle and 4.57 at WOT. I have access to a "Auto x-ray Scanner" for the weekend. Can anyone tell me what to look for here? Thanks in advance everyone.
EDIT,,, I should really call it an "Auto x-ray wallet Scanner" ------------------ jetman Silver 86 SE 2M6 4-speed, with "check wallet light"

if you hook a scanner up to the aldl output, the o2 signal should be a rapid switch signal from around .1 to .4v when the car is warm and in closed loop. you may have gotten a bum o2 sensor. I had that happen a few years back, but I also have an oscilliscope, so I could watch it directly and see it was DOA. the replacement one blew out the fitting in a month, and the original one went back in since neither of them fixed the problme anyway.

Here comes a stupid question, did you disconnect your battery for a few minutes to remove the original error code?
I pulled the ECM fuse for 5 minutes, then took it for a drive to relearn the idle, that was last week. Today I saw the check wallet light several times on the way to work. Thank you, it's not a stupid question, it's a great question to ask! I always appreciate my PFF friends double checking on me!
Been reading the archives, will double check the connector and go play with the scanner.

Wow, I stand corrected. Here's what I discovered. I cannot clear the codes by pulling the ECM fuse. I can only clear the codes by disconecting the negative (-) battery cable. I double checked my results with the scan tool. My O2 sensor looked fine, it was changing values rapidly as I was running the engine. I may have had a faulty connector. I'm going for a drive now, see what happens.

FWIW, I put in a new O2 sensor and a few days later wound up with off and on drivability problems. It had a bad idle, and I was getting a check engine light.
It turned out the connector where the O2 pigtail mates up with the harness wasn't plugged in properly. It looked good, but when I jiggled the connector, the idle smoothed out... It was an easy fix I hope that is all that's wrong with yours.

Now I'm getting a code 44 lean while operation the scanner in the parking lot. I'm going to return the "new" O2 sensor for another one at the auto parts store.

ok, it can also be your map sensor. my last fiero used to post the lean crap, replaced o2, wouldn;t stay fixed. replaced the map sensor, and then never got any other o2 sensor faults. (well, at least not til it rotted out and blew out of the pipe). I proved it out by swapping the map back, drive a while, failed. remove map reset ecm, drive, no code. The map can also effect the fuel mixture, the o2 then goes rich or lean and posts that code. most times you won't get the map code. it;s something to consider, especially if the o2 doesn;t fix it. or you can disconnect the map sensor and see if you lose the 44. it will run without it.
Could I ask what kind of 02 you bought ? Also if you think there is any way it got contaminated --pb-blaster , ect still in the bung or anti seize got on it. The only two 02`s that would work for me was ac/delco or bosch and I had to take the bosch back twice...If your burning any oil, it takes a while of driving for the 02 to adjust & burn off any excess deposit`s.

I purchased a Bosch O2 sensor and gave the threads a coat of antisieze like I usually do, I try to be careful about it. If a new one doesn't do the trick then I will try swapping out MAP sensors and give that a try.

Just a quick follow up for the archives. I replaced the O2 sensor, the 7-day old sensor was carboned up. Ran the car up and down Woodward Avenue with the scanner operating, no codes, we look ok for now. Thanks everyone!

What brand sensor did you end up with, the Bosch?
