87 SE 5spd, Have been having a little trouble with little power in low rps only when cold. Today when driving comming to a stop, I depress the clutch and it dies. At that point it will only run when throttle is applied. I know the trouble with stumbling when cold is probably not related but I thought I would throw it in here too. I took a look at the tps but dont know how to test it as it needs a power supply to be able to measure the output of it. The IAC valve looks clean <no gooey gummy crap at all in the tb> Any thoughts? Suggestions? It is my daily driver so I'm in a little of a pickle.

Thanks,

Check for codes, do you know how to do that? It's fairly simple.

Take a bent paperclip and stuff it into the two lower left terminals in the ALDL, turn the key to RUN but don't crank, and start counting long and short flashes. When the flashes start repeating the same you can shut off the key and remove the clip.

Here's the PFF writeup on codes:

https://www.fiero.nl/cgi-bin/main.cgi?ECMCodes

Note, in that picture the connector is shown upside down from how it's normally mounted in the Fiero.

No codes...sry I forgot to mention it. I was thinking bad tps, but I jsut read that tps doesnt affect idle at all only when you leave idle position. Now I'm really stumped

drove it to work today and it was like nothing happened. I should also mention that yesterday was the hottest its been all year (80+) I can't really afford to replace the tps, ign mod, and the coil at the same time, so if anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.

The tps will hesitate off the line though, have you had the battery disconnected recently ? Usually those symptoms are iac, now sounds heat related . With the engine at normal operating temp, un plug the iac, if rpms raise above normal look for vac leaks. Also with engine running you can put your finger over the iac hole at the bottom of the t.b. --if it stalls no vac leaks--if it keeps running check for vac leaks.
