Sounds like the alternator belt is squealing but it only happens when I push on the clutch pedal. Sound like the TO bearing?

Does it do it warm or cold ? sounds like you may be freeing up some rpms when the clutch is pushed in --which higher rpms when cold could cause the belt squeal if its a little loose. Throw out bearings make a kind of rattleing noise inside the car --you can allmost feel it.

Sounds like a TO bearing to me, just did a clutch job on an 86 SE that had the same sound.

I would say TO bearing of course, but I would really have to feel what the pedal is doing when you press it. If it did nothing stranger than normal, then I think it would be the TOB, but if it rattles or vibrates then it could be a pressure plate with some bent teeth.

This isnt a bad thing now, its just you could have that TOB sieze on your input shaft, then you get to rebuild the shaft and clutch fork. (been there done that)

Either way you have to pull the transmission out.

Thanks all, I guess I'll be pulling the tranny this weekend...

Is there any way to know if a TO bearing is good or bad by just looking at it?

I'd say TO bearing too. When you get it out spin it in your hand and see if there are any tight spots. You might as well replace it, they are cheap enough.

At least it's not just me having transmission/clutch issues. I killed 2nd gear in my isuzu last week. I found a new one and installed it today. Now my clutch pedal is very stiff, then there's a "pop" noise from the trans and the pedal moves freely. I dont know if I damaged my TO bearing when I installed it or what but I really dont feel like taking it back apart again.

Anyway, good luck fixing yours.

Oooooh, that sucks. Maybe the TO bearing wasn't sliding properly and the actuator arm that the slave pushes on snapped??

So, do I hear you saying you replaced the tranny in one day?

mine did the same thing after sitting for a few weeks, but I just kept engaging the clutch and the noise went away. Maybee some moisture build up caused the problem and once the thing got hot from the friction, it relubed itself.

Dunno, I cleaned and lubricated everything when I installed it.

I didnt replace the trans in one day, more like 4 hours. I Did it at work (mechenic). It's amazing how much faster things go with a hoist, $6000 in tools and air tools.
