I have some peeling VIN stickers on my body panels and also one of the door stickers. What type of glue should I use to glue them back down? I don't want to damage the paint.

Id mask where they go carefully and brush on a small amount of contact cement ...sparingly... If you get any on the paint showing, carefully clean it off with alcohol. Dont get anything on the decal face, cleaning it will wipe off the lettering. I like to protect any decal by putting a piece of clear vinyl over it cut about 1/8" larger all around.

I accidently hit the edge of my RPO sticker while cleaning the compartment with acetone... neadless to say it cleaned 1/3 of the sticker, I was ticked off and removed the thing

You could try a very thin double stick tape, this would allow you to apply the tape to the vin decal, trim it and then remove the backing when you want to replace the sticker. I know they make a 2" wide type which is extremely thin about 1-2 mils, as my brother bought some for me to seem some carpet when I looked and laughed at how thin it was we just used the old fashion hot glue type. He got the tape from fred meyer for about $2.
