So my tranny fluid was low ..topped it up finally but noticed tranny fluid sprayed up onto my decklid ..mostly along the bottem of it near the weatherstriping ...so i jacked it up today ..noticed some fluid under the car ..red ..tranny fluid, looked up and saw it dripping from the muffler ..well drips on the muffler and what looked like burnt tranny fluid caked onto the muffler ..anywho ..kept looking and it is pretty dirty under there so it is hard to determine where the leak it coming from ..checked the axels ..doesn't look like its coming from them ..pretty much dry except the pass. side which is wet but i believe tranny fluid is getting over there from whatever else is leaking ..my buddy believes that it could be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) cause it looks the most wet and so is this commen to blow a seal or waht not on the tranny ..PS ..tranny pan is bone dry ..no drips so i know its not that ..and the back of the tranny ( right behide/beside muffler) is dirty and wet ..so if anyone can give me a lead on this ..or a good idea that would help ..i plan to put a dye in the tranny fluid and shampoo it at my shop tomorrow if i get a chance too .. i topped the fluid up on good friday and check it today ..was about down about 0.5L which i tihnk its alot for ..3 days so if anyone could lend me some advice or what not ..i would greatly appreciated ..i have pics but pip doesn't work on this computer anymore ...thanks all

The VSS is driven off the Governor. The Governor does have a valve in (below) it. It's possible it could be leaking. I'd still be inclined to think the passanger side axle seal was leaking. Those seals can leak alot and still leave the axle looking pretty dry.

If you have to mess with the governor, be very careful or you can hose the whole trans. Damage to the governor will screw up shifting.

Hi, That makes sence --if its slinging fluid high enough to hit the deck-lid --it would most likely be an axle seal..

Yes i know but the fluid is mostly spraying up on the driver side on the decklid where the axel seal on the driver side was the one that looked to be more dry than the passagner side i'll try to post some pics soon ..but have to get ready to work ..and it will be easier to look at it today at my shop ..if i can get it in and shampoo it

thanks

Matt, Your inlet and outlet hoses for the trans fluid are on the drivers side, look down where they come out or just follow the trans line from anywhere and it will lead right to where I`m talking about, they are only held on with 2 tiny clamps, and made of rubber..

well its my day off and my bday so cruisin in the fiero and trying not to think abou the tranny leak but since its dripping off the cradle and muffler it could be leaking from the pan and just being blown by the wind under the car onto the muffler and cradle ..so i think when i put the car in the garage tonight i'll check those bolts to make sure they are all tight
