I read a post about plugging off the cold start injector on the 2.8 fuel rail. What is the advantage of doing this and how does it affect performance.

Hi, Welcome to the Forum, I`m only guessing here---someone might do it if theirs is giving them trouble, or if a certain application/mod called for it, the only thing the cold start injector is good for is fast starts & helps when its cold out--it only works I think for up to 8 seconds and powered by the starter solenoid.

Theres no advantage I can think of (except if its bad and leaking). It supplies extra fuel at startup and it supplies it longer in really cold conditions (hence the name!), it doesnt do anything when the engine is warmed up.

I have heard from reputable members that this injector can present lots of problems especially when they leak from lack of use.

As I understand it they only work in really cold weather and not above 40 degree's. If you have a leaking injector then it is pressurized at 40 psi and leaks inwards to the engine when turned off.

I have also heard it is responsible for part of the infamous hunting idle problem.

With the assistance of "WATTS" I will be installing new rebuilt injectors by "cruzin" rebuilt tbi and intake port matched 57mm, along with new gaskets and o2 sensor in the next couple of days.

I will be disabling the cold start injector and pluging off the port with a 12x1.25 putco drain plug and removing the heater lines and will be hoping for the best.

I did not have the cold start rebuilt, however after this I might consider having it done.

The lowest it gets in the northwest is freezing thus I feel it is not necessary. I only have the hunting idle when the engine has sat overnight. If left for 5-6 hours no problems, even though the engine feels absolutely cold.

Hopefully with "WATTS" assistance I will post my results soon

Tim
