I am going to get a transmission for my fiero swap project this weekend, and I am getting pulling a wiring harness off it when I make a down payment on the trans. I really want to know what I need to get off the car, I basicly have free reign when it comes pulling it I think. I know that I am going to get the engine harness line that runs across the top of the radiator, but anything past that is unknown to me.

I have heard things about the fuse box not being needed, which i agree to, but do I need to preserve any of the wires around it?

my plan right now is to just cut the line going into the car about where your passengers left foot would be, and then chase back every wire I can.

In a few words--you said you have free reign on it--grab everything you can, moduals, fuse-block, what ever you don`t grab now --you`ll have to find later and it may cost quite a bit more --if its a dealer item.

I second that notion... if you got free reign, go nuts on it. Better to have more than you need now than paying more later cause you shorted yourself.

Also do not forget to get the fuel pump dropping resistor its a ceramic resistor bolted to the passenger's frame rail, its white about the size of two fingers with two wires going out of it. Also like said above get every thing you can, you can always return or throw away any extras later. Dan

I have planned on getting just about everything I can, but its mostly the procedure that I would like to get a good hold on.

I just wrote down that I need the fuel pump resistor, ironic i never thought of that as I just messed with it on my GTP.

Okay, what is the fuel pump resistor for?

darkhorizion, I got your PM but forgot to reply, I just remembered when I saw your name here. I got a new job, so im never online at home, and I dont have any IM's here at work, sorry dude.
I would take everything from the firewall pass through in the engine bay. I need a cruise setup if it has one and you're not going to need it.

As far as I can tell you dont really need to leave the fuse block attatched, when I tore down my harness I just unplugged all the connectors. You're best bet as far as I can tell is just to tear apart the harness anyway, you can eliminate and relocate as you need and you dont have to worry about tracing wires or anything. Best part is the ECM connections just pop out of the plugs, so there is no cutting or splicing required, you can break it down wire by wire. Ive got some pics of all the wiring stuff and procedures, but have not had time to upload them. Definitely take every bit of wire you can, even if you dont need it 1: It gives you spare wire 2: its easier to figure out what it was for if you have the whole thing.

Free reign??? grab it all. ... get the cruise control unit, alternator, any of the extra wiring...make sure you get the AC compressor....and alots of wire....extra wire.........grab what you can..........free reign is free reign........

better to have too much then to need it later on and kick yourself for not grabbing it when you had the chance..........

good luck and have fun!!
