I was wondering how GM put the white lettering and symbols on the switchs in the interior. Were they painted or what. FYI my reasoning is i want to place custom symbols on the stock fiero switch but want it to look factory. So does anyone know where i can find a sticker or template for a GM fog light switch.

The lettering is applied with a process called pad printing. It is like silk screening except that the template is used to tranfer the image to a pad and then to the part.

would this be similar to how a rubber stamp works?

If I remeber correctly pad printing is similar to a rubber stamp but much more flexible to fit the various contours. The procces that I saw used a rubber ball with the raised image on it and the ball (sort of a heavy duty balloon) deformed as it was pressed against the object. You may be able to simulate the procces but it would take a fair bit of trial and error plus they may use a particular type of "paint".
