wow, sorry, hopefully this is the last question

for the 3.4 swap do you use the fiero oil pan or the camaro oil pan. It seems to matter for the oil pump and pickup and everything...

I am assuming you can go with either, as long as the oil pump and parts match...

thanks again
Matt

use the fiero oil pan with the associated fiero timing cover. 85-86 are different than the 87-88. I don't know about the camaro oil pan.

I don't know the answer to your question, but it may depend on the answer to this question: Is the baffling in the oil pan different on the Camaro/Firebird 3.4 (longitudinal engine) than on the Fiero 2.8 (transverse) engine?

Someone posted recently that the Camaro pan is shallower than the Fiero pan. I would have thought it would be the other way around as the Camaro undoubtedly has more stroke and thus the crank would be lower in the pan. Either way, I currently have the Fiero pan on as I only bought a shortblock and not a used engine.

It has to match the timing cover--as mentioned in the last post & above 85-86 or 87-88 , if you use a 86 timing cover you have to use a 85-86 oil pan for it to match & visa versa.

IIRC, the 3.4 water pump is reverse rotation so you have to use the Fiero pump and timing cover, that means you have to use the Fiero oil pan. I would install a new oil pump at this point no matter what, it's cheap insurance since you've got the pan off anyway.

See Jazzman's post right above yours. He is correct, the 3.4 water pump rotates the wrong way. The water pumps and timing covers go together, so you must use the 2.8 pump, cover, and subsequently the oil pan as well.
