Im am currently working on an 86 se trying to convert it to a fastback. I picked up all the pieces i need vents, seal, decklid, etc.... etc.... my question is when taking off the notchback clip and replacing the fastback clip which is the correct way of lifting the roof panel? The person i bought all of my fastback stuff makes kit cars for a living. He had said shimmying the rear part of the roof up will allow me to remove the rear clip, but ive heard from reliable sources that this may cause the roof panel to snap and need to remove the windshield to pull the roof off...... im confused now and would like to hear / see pictures how other people have done the swap....

I have completed a notchback to GT conversion on my build web and don't seem to recall anything about a windshield problem. The back section of the fastback and the notchback start aft of the seam on the roofline. Go to this page on my web site http://64.17.190.253/fiero%20stuff/Fiero%20HTM%20files/fastback_conversion.htm and you can see the two parts side by side. This is a very common conversion and many people here have completed it with ease. I did mine by myself and found that a bit of lifting help would have been nice but it did work out fine. You do need to locate the three or two nuts fitted onto the bolts that are integral parts of the roof panels.

Good luck with your conversion, it really is a nice one to do.

Take out the bolts behind your headliner and just wedge the roof up like half an inch.

Hi, There are 3 x 10mm bolts to be removed after the liner comes out--I also suggest to loosed up the ones on each side--hold your hand tightly above where these bolts are--as they can wiggles loose inside the fiber panel in the roof section. Once thats done gentle (from side to side) pry up a little --just enough to get ex: 2 soft ended hammer handles in there to keep them lifted up. Then its just a matter of lifting off/out the rear section--side to side motion until the gas tank filler neck is cleared , no need to remove windsheild of all of the roof section. Here`s whats needed::

1.upper-fastback GT section
> 2. rear deck lid
> 3. left and right GT (PONTIAC) rear lamp`s
> 4. left and right inner quarter panel insert`s
> 5. left and right vent`s and vent bracket`s
> 6. left and right sizing plates
> 7. wheather strip for trunk GT
> 8. Left and right rear inner wheel well inserts
> 9. rear GT bumper / reinforcement / aluminum >10.round GT round moulding signal`s, markers,
ect
> 11.Gt rear wiring harness
> 12. quarter window`s GT
> 13. All mounting Hardware, Bolt`s , Nut`s , Screw`s etc
> 14. Gt rear spoiler,and stands, gaskets
> 15. Gt rear facia
> 16. Gt emblem in rear facia molding
