Hey, I know that mechanically there are differences between the fiero years, but I was wondering body wise and tranny wise.

Are there any body differences between an 84 and 86 fiero?

Also, can I buy an 84 manual, and swap it directly into my 86 auto? So to make my 86 a manual.

thanks!

Body differences in the 84 thru 86 four cylinder coupes are none with the exception of the early 84 door skins mounted differently. Chassis wiring in the 84 is different from all other models. The 84 pace car was the first with the aero package as body wise it looks like the 85 GT.
85 was also the first year of the V-6 version found in the GT and SE which retained the coupe body style for the same year (2M6).
86 GT changed to the fastback body style, the SE has the same body style as the 85 GT and the coupe retained the original standard body style.
So far as using parts between these years to convert from an automatic tranny to a manual, you should have no problems unless you are planning on a 5 speed manual tranny. In that case you would need to do some minor wiring.

Ok, I hate to be picky, but 84's have a different rear decklid with the center grate.

ok, so another question then that came up just in the last day...

is the 4 speed manual or 5 speed manual better stock w/ a V6? What about w/ a 3800 SC, or a 3.4?

Thanks in advance!!

For highway fuel mileage I believe the 5 speed manual is better w/ a V6 than the 4 speed manual.
However for driving some people prefer the stock 4 speed, some the stock 5 speed, and others like the 4.10 ratio 4 speed for quick starts.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Alot of folks prefer the 5 speed getrag with the 3800SC--others like the automatic 4t65eHD as its more capable of handling the torque the 3800SC puts out. I have all 3 trans and for highway I like the getrag--around town --light to light stuff--4 speed muncie & the 4t65eHD fot the 88GT 3800SC I have. Do`nt know if that helped or not....

The only problem with the 4.10 gears is that they only came on the weak 84 muncies, and maked to a duke they weren't all that quick.

for gas milage the izusu is great. they are stronger than most think. second gear is the weakest link in the izusu. they are cheaper to get cause they are soo easy to get your hans on. I've used a izusu behind my 4.9 V-8 for two years now without any problims.
