Well, I know this isn't fiero related, but it's a techinical issue and i figured someone would know what is going on in this section. I'm driving my winter car right now and it's a 1992 buick century, with a V6 3.3L 3300. The engine has 92k miles. I'm getting a ticking noise and it sounds like it's comming from the upper intake manifold or the fuel injector/rails area. The tick is loud enough to hear when the hood is down inside and outside of the car, but it's not like a signal that something is seriously wrong... Anyways there is also the same tick comming from the fuel canister thing that's up at the front of the car. I think it has to do with fuel return...? Anybody have any ideas. I was maybe thinking a fuel injector, but i've never heard of one makeing a sound like that, and the canister noise makes it seem like the problem is something different.

The best way I recommend is just taking a steel rod (or socket extension) and use it as a stethoscope (sp?) on the upper intake area to identify what is making the noice. Amazingly something this siple works great!

i had one of those motors in my 93 grand am gt. decent motor. bought mine with 80k on it, had that tick... ran it to 125k, sold it, still running strong with the same tick... according to the forum for them, they always tick and theres nothing you can do about it. same thing with haveing a slightly rough idle. might just be an injector pulseing or something, but i never got rid of mine, but it wasnt a terrible tick... just a subtle little noise. good luck on finding it. mine might have been nothing, yours could be something so i guess its worth investigating

hey sublime, that's the exact problem i'm having... it has a rough ideal too. It is just a real subtle tick, like enough to notice, but not unbearable. I really wish I could find it. It used to have a nice quite smooth sound too, even at higher rpms.

You guys have it easy, I have a quad4 single overhead, and the camshaft rarly sees any oil. Between that and my power steering pump, you can hardly hear the exhaust over ticks off the top of the motor.

Been running for about 4 years with that tick, over 50k miles on it.
