How close is a Northstar throttle body to a LS1 TB? How much bigger is the LS1 over the N*? I think I remember reading that the Northstar TB is a bolt on, no modifications needed in the PCM to make it work. How big are the mm wise? Let me know what you guys think of them. Should I just go ahead and get a LS1 or will the N* be just about as efficient without extra computer hassle. LMK.

Thanks guys,
Amir

This has came up alot on the GP forum but it been a while since I read about it. IIRC the LS1 tb is alittle bigger then the N*.

I think this kit is suppose to be the same or close to a N* TB.
http://wbodystore.com/wbody/product_info.php/cPath/21/products_id/167?osCsid=1a4de6a7704499fe3b396f74e21150d8

And zzperformance.com used to have a Ls1 kit but all they seem to have left is this used one
http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=233

So if the wbody's kit is a N* then that put the N* TB at 75mm, the Ls1 TB at 85mm, and the stock TB at 69mm. Since you can't use the stock MAF with any of the other TB (unless you stuck it inside a pipe the same inside area of the stock MAF tube, which would hurt flow) you have to do something to trick/reconfigure the pcm so it know how much are is comming in. With a ported tb on my GTP I used ZZP AFC 2.x to "trick" the pcm into knowing the correct amount of air flow. Its also great for getting read of KR. Here a link to it.

Well I have a LS1 Maf. So can I run a Northstar throttle body or can I just bolt on a LS1 throttle body and be set to go?

I'd really like to just pick up a LS1 throttle body. Is that all I need is the throttle body itself, nothing else. Since I already have the LS1 maf programming added to my PCM. Let me know.

Thanks,
Amir

I can't say for all models of the N* TB, but the one I have which is 2000+, is the same 75mm as the LS1 TB.

The group buy on the N* TB on CGP today is for a early model TB and this requires a bolt on extension, which I think Brian adds a provision to put the STOCK TB MAF back in there.

You have to have an adapter to get from L67 Gen 3 SC to LS1 TB, or even the N* TB. It dont just bolt on. Then if you dont want to cut and solder the TPS, you have to have a pigtail adapter wire. The IAC plugs right in either TB.

The SLP MAF is the only way I go with my custom stuff. It is 85MM, and creates an excellent idle for all the testing I have done any way.

Both units are 75mm and will be "plug and play" as far as the IAC and TPS are concerned.
