I have a slight problem that I need help with. Every morning or when the car is cold and I crank it, the belt starts to squeal bad. I have tighten the belt but before long it happens again. This last time I noticed that as I tightenned the nut the bolt was also turning. Is this normal? and How can I stop the bolt from turning? I have nowhere to hold the bolt from.
Thanks

Get gator back belts. Also I don't understand what you mean by the bolt turning while tighten the belt. Which bolt are you talking about? The top bolt holds it to the bracket and the bottom bolt tighten''s to lock it in place. Don

Sorry about that. I am talking about the botom bolt that tighten's to lock it in place.
If you have a nut on the end of the adjustment bolt, it's because at some point in its life the threads in the alternator's face were stripped out. Anywho...
What's stopping you from from holding the bolt head still with a wrench while you tighten the nut (or vice versa)?

I have nothing to hold the head with. The head of the bolt is round, it is not square or anything like that. That is my problem. Is everyones bolt the same or where can I get the right bolt if indeed mine is the incorrect one.

Normally there is no nut on the alternator adjustment bolt--the flange on the alternator's face which the bolt passes through is supposed to be threaded. The normal configuration has the bolt pass through the slotted bracket, and tighten in to the flange on the alternator.
You're not going to get anywhere favorable if you can't lock the alternator to the adjustment bracket. At this point I would be doing whatever is necessary to remove the rounded-off bolt, and replace it with a bolt/nut pair of the same or similar length & diameter from your favorite hardware store.
You may get lucky and be able to remove the bolt with a pair of vice grips in-car. If it gives you any grief however, it may be easier to pull the alt. and extract that bolt on a work bench instead.

That lock down bolt is a 13 mm and the same bolt as the exhaust manifold bolts. you need to get it out and replace it. My son-in law used a dremmel tool to grind the head off of his. good luck Don
