I've only had these on my rears for a little over a year and it looks like I'll be buying a new set soon. The thread is nearly gone. I didn't burn them out either I don't know why I bought Cooper Cobras but I never will again! My fronts will need replacing soon too so any recommendations for a nice set that'll last longer than 13 months!
If you're looking for all-seasons, Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's baby! 215/60R14's only come in whiteletter, but I just had the place I got them from mount them with the whiteletters inside.

The Cobras had the white lettering too and had them mounted the same. How many miles do you have on your Firehawks?

i run yokohama evs 100...i like them and they wear pretty good. they are a good combo of being soft and sticky but yet not premature wear. good price too
I have had my cooper cobras 125/50/15 front 3/4 tread 225/60/15 rear half tread on my car for allmost two years and they were used and came on my wheels when i bought them. They do wear faster that many tires but thats because they are a higher perfomance softer compound. if you want long lating tires and not loose much performace then get a set of bf goodrich radial T/As or comps if you can afford them

I've got a set of those Firestone Firehawks on my '86 SE - they'll be coming off as soon as the suspension work is completed. Only reason they're on there is that they came with the car and were nearly new. They won't hold a balance and don't have very good traction - they'd be great if you wanted to do burnouts but not so good for handling...
GoodYear Eagle F1 Supercars. My favorite tires ! We have cooper cobra's on the camaro... Had them for a few years already with not much wear.. How many miles have you put on them?

You still might want to have a 4 wheel alignment done when you get the new tires. It may not be very obvious but, you could have slightly out of wack alignment causing excessive wear. It happens!
I have always had pretty good luck with Dunlop`s ---- I like to turn the tires over quite a bit---but don`t like to pay for changing them every other month or so...

I thought about this being the culprit and I didn't have one done till about 2k miles ago. But still...almost down to nothing with only 10k! Thanks alot for all the recommendations. I've been surfing and I can see the savings if I buy on-line so I think I'll do that!

first...i never thought dunlop ever made a ROUND tire...never had good luck with them! opinions vary
second, i had an alignment dont on 11jan06...after that i noticed my car was very darty and would jump around over any imperfection in the road...replaced all my tires cause they were gettin toward the tread bars...didnt help...went to another alignment shop and insisted that i be able to stand there and watch...my alignment was wayyyy out. since having it done there, its a whole new car. dont assume that since you had it done a little while ago..that it was done CORRECTLY! good luck
I've put almost 10k miles on the Cooper Cobras on my truck, driving it like I stole it (you can only tell if you listen to it, it still doesn't go anywhere :P), and my tires hardly look worn at all, even the back tires that never get any traction when it's wet & end up spinning. I highly suggest you have a 4 wheel alignment done. Stand there and watch them do it. Make sure the numbers are proper for a Fiero.

I have 14" tires on my Fiero, and there is crap available for decent performance tires for them, in P215/60R14. But I found these, Yokohama Avid T4's, they are a performance touring tire, and are rated for 70,000 Miles, they are a T rated tire, which is better than every other P215/60R14 tire. I have put 6,000 Miles on them and they are great. They have awesome wet and dry traction. They even handle pretty good, I took it to an slalom race, and they worked better than I thought. They werent the cheapest, they were $600.00 (CDN) installed and balanced. They are only available in blackwall.

if i buy new tires, i buy BFgoodrich geforce TA KDW's on every car i own, they arent made for long lasting, but they are hands down the best handling dry and wet traction tire ive ever used.
if you want a tire that lasts along time, and is road use, see if you can yokohama geolanders (probably for suv's only) but my parents have 60k on their tires, and they still have 30% or so on them.
also make sure all your ball joints/tire rods/control arm bushings are in good shape before getting it aligned or it will just be off as soon as you drive it again

I have been driving v6 Fieros for 9 years, have used Coopers, Firestones, etc. Driving style will wear tires faster than you think, and I know how hard it is to NOT stick it hard into the corner every time the corners come up. I figure if I get a year out of the rears and 2 years out of the fronts I'm doing well.
A few tips: Never run anything lower than H rated tires on a Fiero, the sidewall is much stiffer than with lower rated tires. Keep your air pressure at 30/30 F/R, and check it every week. Worn bushings and shocks/struts will cause havoc on tire wear. Always run rain tires if you want to stick and not hydroplane in the rain.
Best tires I found (now out of production) were Firestone SH30.
Watch your treadwear rating also, the higher the number generally the higher the mileage, something in the 350 plus range should offer good mileage. The higher the speed rating in the tire the better the performance but the cost is tire life. A good H rated tire will not likely have a mileage rating higher than 50,000 and the more driving you do around town the more they are going to wear, so keep that in mind and buy tires from someone that offers a warranty and stands by it. I purchased my tires from Sears auto and when a pair of 245/50/16 goodyear eagles wore out due to normal use within 25% of the 50K mile warranty, they replaced the tires free, all I had to pay for was balancing. I had other tires on a different car prorated.
Honestly, you get what you pay for, Cooper Cobras are a cheap tire. I have them on my 3800sc car, and they are alright as long as the road is dry.. wet.. really bad, and I drove one time with them in snow... I went out and got snow tires right away. They are probley the worst handling tires Ive ever felt!(the snows) feels like Im driving on jello.. anyways, If you want a good performance tire, you will have bad milage.. I used to sell tires, its the soft grippy rubber that you want.. but that comes at a price.

I almost bought those cooper tires, glad I didn't. I went with Dunlop 8000's. They're a soft compound and are only warranted for 40,000 miles. If they last that long I'll be surprised. The good thing is they have awesome grip off the line and are Z rated (+149mph), so I feel safer breaking the speed limit on the interstate...with everyone else . The fast lane on I65 in this area can get going to nearly 100mph sometimes. They also handle very well in my opinion. They glue my car to the road. I have 225/50/15's on all 4 tires. For $125 a piece I think they're a great deal. Only disadvantage is that they're "summer only" tires. No big deal here since I store my car in the winter.
I do think your wear is due to something else. That's just too fast.

I'm running Cooper Cobras and have no complaints from them. Are they Cheap, yeah, but for what I spent they more than do the job I expect of them. Will I get them whenever I get new rims, no I'll be buying something more in tune with a higher performance rating and look.

I'm also running cobras in the rear (235/60/14) and have had them for 3 years now as my winter tires but for the past year i've used them year 'round, i have well over 15k on them and there's still about 40% life left in them. the bigest thing is the rear alignment for tire longevity. my first set of tires were yokohama 225/50/16s and they were gone in less than 5000 mi as well as the replacement continental 245/45/16s, the problem was the rear alignment!!! when driving, there was NO indication of a problem but the tires were wearing like i was burning out at every stop. Next were the BFG comp T/A KDW's 245/45, a bit pricey but the breakaway was smooth and controlable and the rears lasted me over 2 years and i'm on my second set now. i must say i like these very much except for the price. the fronts have never worn out and are still on my car after 5 years.
moral of this story: [bold/] GET AN ALIGNMENT !!!!!!!!! [bold]
