I bought my Fiero 2 weeks ago and have noticed that the radi. fan doesn't come on at all. After reading what I could here I have a couple questions. 1 What temp. is the radiator fan supposed to kick on? I read 230 degrees but want to make sure. I let her warm up the other morning and when I came out it was above 230 and was leaking alittle antifreeze(still no fan). I drove down the street and it went down almost right away, check it the coolant level it was good. I also turned on the ac for alittle bit and still nothing. 2 I am figuring there is a sensor or fuse out but I need some clarification on where to start looking. Sorry don't know my way around my Fiero just yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turning on the AC should have made the radiator fan come on. You can check the wires to it to see if they are getting voltage first. If they aren't it could be a bad relay, bad fuse, or bad fan switch. I would start with the fuses since they are the easiest to check.

Check the relay. That is what it might be. If you let your car warm up and then turn it off feel the radiator. If it is warm then the radiator should be good. .
I checked the fuse that is good. Where exactly is the relay and or fan switch? I figure the relay is under the dash but a point in the correct location would be great.

The relay is under the drivers headlight. the switch in right to the intake but left of the coolant tube, and the thermostats. It is hard to get to I could only get one hand to get to the Switch. What I did was unclamp the tube and moved it out of the way to get a bit more room. I bought new clamps to clamp the tube back in place and I had to refill the coolant. You will not lose a lot of coolant if you decide to unclamp the hose but I wanted to make sure that it was all the way up! I know that this will not have to due with the radiator coming on or not but you can buy from web site a low temp thermostat.
If you still can not find the switch I will take a photo tomorrow for ya but I will have to do it after school. I get out at 1pm so I am sure I will have it for you some time after that.

Could you? I've been having that issue for a couple of years now...
Could I what? LOL. take photos? Yeah I will do that for ya.
Also I forgot to add you need to but some type of Teflon tape around the switch according to the Haynes Manuel. That way it will not lose coolant. Now I did not put any tape around it and it has not lost any coolant so it is up to you.
Hi, Welcome to the Forum, if your looking for the fan/rad switch, find your thermostat neck, look a little to the left under the black tiny vacum lines towards the front of the engines lower intake, you will see 2 verticale mushroom looking black connectors, the one closest the thermo-neck should have 1 green wire leading to the top of it, thats the one you want, if you go a couple inches further towards the front, you will see another one with 2 wires 1 pink 1 purple, thats your cold start switch---you went to far--back to the green one---move the vacum lines (carefully) out of your way, a long pair of needle nose pliers will work ok here, just squeeze the 2 sides of it that protrude & lift--theres your fan rad switch,,, forgot to add, drain enough coolant so it doesn`t run all over everything when you take out your switch , also be carefull not to tighten the new one down to much, it will crack the lower (aluminum) intake---don`t ask...........Hope this helps some....

Good description for a V6, but his sig identifies a 4 banger. I think the fan switch on a L4 is between the engine and the firewall and on the driver's side just below the valve cover lip. Just going by memory here. So please confirm.

It's ok. I turned on the ac last night on the way home and the fan kicked on after about 2 minutes. I didn't let the ac run that long the last time (my dumb dumb) I still don't like the fact that the fan didn't come on and the temp was over 220. I read that the fan is supposed to go on a 230 ?
