Need to know where to start diagnosing my a/c problem. Holds freon ,fan blows,but a/c compessor doesn't come on.

Check your AC relay. It's right next to the Fuel pump relay. They are located by the air cleaner. The AC relay is the one on the left.

If the relay is good then check the wire to the clutch on the compressor. could be a bad clutch also.

Check the pressure switch, it's up front on the accumulator (silver can). Take the plug off of it and jumper the terminals in the plug. If the compressor engages, you either have a bad pressure switch or low refrigerant pressure.

It may be holding freon, but at what pressure? If the pressure isn't high enough, the compressor clutch will not engage.
